What’s New in SharePoint 2013?

New content types in SharePoint 2013.

Adding new help links when maintenance is being performed.

Users can control all aspects of the upgrade (individual sites) not just Site Collection admins.

Site collection Health Check now available to end-users prior to upgrades, health checks run previous to upgrades.

  • Evaluation Site Collections exist for 30 days as default.
    • Allows site collection admins to preview as it was in SharePoint 2010, using snapshots of the production site collection DB or for versions not using SQL technologies that support snapshots will create a backup of the DB which forces the production DB in read only mode.

Upgrades use throttling and allow only 10 upgrades per web application.

User Profile Service Application updates – Thin approach, no longer need to provision AD.

Office Web Application servers are now separated into its own server.

Office Web Application (WAC) URL's are easy to create!

  • Document.docx?Web=1
    • Just add the Web=1 to view a document in the web.

Web analytics has been removed from SharePoint 2013!!! Data will not be transferred to upgrade. The new web analytics platform has been created and added to the new search integrations services.

Page loads are quicker since page no longer refresh the chrome.
