Yammer (Microsoft)

Yammer is an Enterprise social networking tool that allows you to share and work together to be more productive. Yammer can be accessed at https://www.yammer.com and also allows networks to be created for your workplace. Yammer has been around since 2008 and was acquired by Microsoft in 2012 and will be part of the SharePoint 2013 deployment toolset. Yammer is used by 80,000 companies and %70+ of fortune 500 companies are using the social networking tool.

Yammer allows the ability to create corporate networks; for example I work at Indiana University (IU) and our workplace Yammer site is at https://www.yammer.com/indiana.edu. As result my social network which is very similar to Facebook is contained within this domain and I can share files and e-mail using group sharing options or private sharing.

My understanding is that Yammer, Microsoft Lync, Skype (which was acquired by Microsoft in 2011), and other chat software used with Live.com services will become one overall service offered through on-site and cloud services that will integrate fully with on-site SharePoint, Office 365, and other existing Microsoft services.

Exciting to see such great services being merged into one overall great service!
