Identity Finder 9 Upgrade and Installation

Version 9.0

Upgrade the (Server) Console before upgrading the clients.  The previous version 8 clients will continue to work with the new 9.x.x services.

Make certain you use domain accounts for the services before proceeding (Forexample).
diomain\idfist – Install with this account, needs DB sysadmin permissions
domain\idfiis – Run IIS with this account, only needs DBO access to the DB.
domain\idfsrv – Run the IDF services with this account, only needs DBO access to the DB.

  1. To upgrade the console, please follow the instructions below:
    1. Backup the database (IDF_INSTANCE_MC)
    2. Take a snapshot of the application server if possible.

Sign into the server using the domain account domain\idfist for the installation!  This is important because this account will be used to connect to the DB for all communications since it uses Integrated Security.

    1. Version 9 requires .NET 4.6 installed Download the off network version installer - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=49982.
      1. Previous installations should already have the following completed:
        1. Ensure that the system requirements listed in the following article are met as they may have changed since the previous version you are on:
          http://www.identityfinder.com/kb/191239#Prerequisite%20Software
Version 9 also requires .NET 4.6 installed. If it is not installed then you will be prompted to download and install it while running the installer - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=49982.
        2. Ensure that all the required IIS Roles and Services that are needed are installed:
          http://www.identityfinder.com/kb/573167
    2. Backup the web.config and Redirect.htm custom files created for the IU IIS services under the wwwroot location.
    3. Ensure that the CAT (Console Administrator Tool) and the SQL Server Manager are not opened when you are running the installer to upgrade the console.
    4. Remove all Client Updates from the tabs on the Console's > Admin > Client Updates screen before running the installer to upgrade.
  2. After successful upgrade, navigate to https://idf.iu.edu/services in Internet Explorer. On that page select the Test Services Connection link to verify the services are running correctly.
    1. If you receive the following error, that is caused by the CAT being configured to allow https connections for the Services application however there is no binding for https configured in IIS Manager. If you do receive the following error when testing the Services connection please either change the configuration in the CAT to only allow http connections or add the binding for https in IIS Manager.
      1. Source Error:
An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.
Stack Trace: [InvalidOperationException: Could not find a base address that matches scheme https for the endpoint with binding...
  3. Before upgrading clients to version 9, update the client license in the Console > Admin > Client Updates > License Updates with the new version 9 license.

Pro Tip*

After upgrading to version 9, if the Console presents Error 403, you will need to run the following hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980368.

Note*

When you upgrade to version 9 from a previous version, any OnlyFind Identities configured in any Policy in the previous version will be added to the Console's > Admin > Sensitive Data Types screen and be added to the Policy they were found in on the previous Console's versions Policy > Search Locations > Only Find screen. They will still be associated with the same Policy they were before however they will be found on the Policies Sensitive Data Types screen.
If you had used MultiFind in the previous version you would now configure that on the Console's > Admin > Sensitive Data Types screen and add a Sensitive Data Type of Sensitive Data Definition which you then configure a logic statement to search for the same information as you had previously done using MultiFind.
